Questions parents ask

How many mainstream schools are there in Surrey?

Surrey has 293 state mainstream schools (251 primary, 40 secondary and 2 all-through or middle). In January 2026, at its primary schools, 13.3% of pupils got SEN support and 4.7% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 13.2% of pupils got SEN support and 4.1% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).

Which mainstream schools in Surrey have an SEN unit or resourced provision?

Ashford Park Primary School, Auriol Junior School, Badshot Lea Village Infant School, Bagshot Infant School, Bell Farm Primary School, Bletchingley Village Primary School, Broadmere Primary Academy, Broadwater School, Burpham Primary School, Chandlers Field Primary Academy, Cuddington Community Primary School and Darley Dene Primary School, and 44 more. They are listed with the area’s special schools.

How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?

Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Surrey council for an EHC needs assessment.

What do the figures mean?

SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
