Questions parents ask
How many mainstream schools are there in Westminster?
Westminster has 33 state mainstream schools (25 primary, 7 secondary and 1 all-through or middle). In January 2026, at its primary schools, 14.4% of pupils got SEN support and 6.6% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 11.9% of pupils got SEN support and 3.2% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).
Which mainstream schools in Westminster have an SEN unit or resourced provision?
All Souls CofE Primary School, Dorothy Gardner Nursery School, Edward Wilson Primary School, Hallfield Primary School, Marylebone Academy, Millbank Gardens Primary Academy, Pimlico Academy, Pimlico Primary, Portman Early Childhood Centre, Queen's Park Primary School, St Augustine's Federated Schools: CE High School and Tachbrook Nursery School. They are listed with the area’s special schools.
How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?
Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Westminster council for an EHC needs assessment.
What do the figures mean?
SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
