In January 2026, at its primary schools, 15.8% of pupils got SEN support and 4.2% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 12.8% of pupils got SEN support and 3.1% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).

Which mainstream schools in Walsall have an SEN unit or resourced provision?

Bentley West Primary School, Blue Coat Church of England Aided Infant School, Blue Coat Church of England Aided Junior School, Christ Church Church of England Primary School, Chuckery Primary School, Leighswood School, Lindens Academy, Meadow View Academy, Moorcroft Wood Academy, New Invention Infant School, Ogley Hay Nursery School and Pelsall Village School, and 6 more. They are listed with the area’s special schools.

How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?

Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Walsall council for an EHC needs assessment.

What do the figures mean?

SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
