How many mainstream schools are there in Liverpool?

Liverpool has 130 state mainstream schools (98 primary, 30 secondary and 2 all-through or middle). In January 2026, at its primary schools, 19.8% of pupils got SEN support and 4.7% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 18.7% of pupils got SEN support and 4.3% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).

Which mainstream schools in Liverpool have an SEN unit or resourced provision?

Abercromby Nursery School, All Saints' Catholic Voluntary Aided Primary School, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Primary School, Corinthian Community Primary School, East Prescot Road Nursery School, Ellergreen Nursery School and Childcare Centre, Everton Nursery School and Family Centre, Holy Trinity Catholic Primary School, Knotty Ash Primary School, Mab Lane Junior Mixed and Infant School, Matthew Arnold Primary School and Notre Dame Catholic Academy, and 6 more. They are listed with the area’s special schools.

How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?

Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Liverpool council for an EHC needs assessment.

What do the figures mean?

SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
