In January 2026, at its primary schools, 12.8% of pupils got SEN support and 4.2% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 13.7% of pupils got SEN support and 4% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).

Which mainstream schools in Leicestershire have an SEN unit or resourced provision?

All Saints Church of England Primary School, All Saints Church of England Primary School, Sapcote, Beauchamp College, Brookside Primary School, Captains Close Primary School, Christ Church & Saint Peter's Cofe Primary School, Glenfield Primary School, Hugglescote Community Primary School, Iveshead School, John Wycliffe Primary School, Kingsway Primary School and Lift Beacon, and 17 more. They are listed with the area’s special schools.

How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?

Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Leicestershire council for an EHC needs assessment.

What do the figures mean?

SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
