How many mainstream schools are there in Leicester?

Leicester has 81 state mainstream schools (67 primary, 12 secondary and 2 all-through or middle). In January 2026, at its primary schools, 14.5% of pupils got SEN support and 2.8% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 12.2% of pupils got SEN support and 2.5% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).

Which mainstream schools in Leicester have an SEN unit or resourced provision?

Babington Academy, Barley Croft Primary School, Braunstone Frith Primary Academy, Catherine Infant School, English Martyrs' Catholic School, A Voluntary Academy, Fullhurst Community College, Imperial Avenue Infant School, Inglehurst Junior School, Kestrel Mead Primary Academy, King Richard III Infant and Nursery School, Lancaster Academy and Orchard Mead Academy, and 10 more. They are listed with the area’s special schools.

How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?

Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Leicester council for an EHC needs assessment.

What do the figures mean?

SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
