Questions parents ask
How many mainstream schools are there in Kensington and Chelsea?
Kensington and Chelsea has 25 state mainstream schools (22 primary and 3 secondary). In January 2026, at its primary schools, 15.1% of pupils got SEN support and 5.9% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 12.8% of pupils got SEN support and 5.9% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).
Which mainstream schools in Kensington and Chelsea have an SEN unit or resourced provision?
All Saints Catholic College, Ark Brunel Primary Academy, Barlby Primary School, Chelsea Academy, Golborne & Maxilla Nursery School, Kensington Aldridge Academy, Marlborough Primary School and Oxford Gardens Primary School. They are listed with the area’s special schools.
How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?
Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Kensington and Chelsea council for an EHC needs assessment.
What do the figures mean?
SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
