Questions parents ask

How many mainstream schools are there in Hampshire?

Hampshire has 423 state mainstream schools (376 primary, 44 secondary and 3 all-through or middle). In January 2026, at its primary schools, 13.8% of pupils got SEN support and 5.2% had an EHC plan (England: 15.4% and 4.1%); at its secondary schools, 14.9% of pupils got SEN support and 5.1% had an EHC plan (England: 14.1% and 3.5%).

Which mainstream schools in Hampshire have an SEN unit or resourced provision?

Applemore College, Ashley Infant School, Ashley Junior School, Bartley Church of England Junior School, Bedenham Primary School, Bushy Leaze Early Years Centre, Cams Hill School, Cherbourg Primary School, Cove School, Cranbourne, Crestwood Community School and Crofton School, and 56 more. They are listed with the area’s special schools.

How do I get SEN support at a mainstream school?

Talk to the class teacher and the school’s SENCO (special educational needs co-ordinator). Your child doesn’t need a diagnosis. If they need more help than the school can usually give, you or the school can ask Hampshire council for an EHC needs assessment.

What do the figures mean?

SEN support is help in school without an EHC plan; an EHC plan is a legal plan from the council for children who need more. The figures show how many children a school supports, not how well, so talk to the SENCO and read the school’s SEN information report.
