Cerebral Palsy

What is Cerebal Palsy?

Cerebral Palsy (CP) is a group of neurological conditions that affect movement, muscle tone, and posture. It occurs when there is brain damage, or the brain develops differently or experiences disruptions during early development, often before, during, or shortly after birth. This can impact an individual's ability to control their muscles, leading to challenges with coordination and involuntary movement.

CP is one of the most common motor disabilities in childhood, with studies estimating its prevalence at around 2 to 3 cases per 1,000 live births worldwide (CDC, 2023). While CP is a lifelong condition, early intervention and therapy can significantly improve an individual's mobility, independence, and overall quality of life.
